The Sami people go by a variety of names but one thing still remains uncertain-Which name do they go by? The Swedish and Norwegian often use the name Same. But since there is an English adjective already spelled that way, the Sami community thought this might bring confusion. Thus, the two variations that have been getting the most appeal are Sami and Saami. One thing remains certain however, the people want to get away from the term Lapp. Lapp is another name they have gone by which they have gone by which means patched clothes.
The name Sami has a few interpretations, these include "on high", "exalted", and "supreme".
